Jan Šikl

Composer, arranger and multi-instrumentalist Jan Šikl began composing at the Jaroslav Ježek Conservatory and completed his studies with Otomar Kvěch at the Prague Conservatory. His work is straddled between several genres, from classical music to jazz, world music and traditional folk music to stage and film making. His compositions were interpreted by the Berg Orchestra and the South Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra, Epoque Quartet, arranged for FOK ensembles, Unique orchestra and others.. As an arranger and conductor, he is part of the Floex Ensemble project. However, the core of his work is stage work. In more than a decade he has created music for important theatre and dance ensembles, among them Laterna Magika, Spitfire Company, Dekkadancers, 420People, Losers Cirque Company, South Bohemian Theatre, Klicper Theatre. He summarized his stage compositions on two albums, Musica Teatrale I and Musica Teatrale II, which contain carefully re-edited and remastered pieces from his theatrical projects. Alongside his theatre work, his music has appeared in numerous radio plays, audiobooks and documentaries. As a drummer, he is active in the progressive jazz band Zabelov Group and in the world music project Korjen.
